WINKLEIGH Fair will very quickly be upon us once more. After two years of disruption and re-arranging, the Fair is returning to its traditional dates and will run for the week from Saturday, July 9 to Saturday, July 16.
As well as events you will all recognise from previous years, there are some additional new features which organisers are confident will attract villagers and visitors alike.
Programme
Saturday, July 9
Whether you are an expert or a novice, the Fun Clay Shoot at 2pm in the field at the back of Winkleigh Sports Centre will be a great afternoon. Fully supervised by experienced shooting club members, go and try your luck at disintegrating clays as they fly through the air.
Sunday, July 10
The Fair Church Service will be held in The Square (weather permitting) at 3pm followed by the Official Opening of the Fair, the dressing of the well in The Square and the crowning of the Fair King and Queen.
Go along with a “bring and share” picnic where you will also be entertained with Morris Dancing and music. Then, at 4pm, you can join in with a car treasure hunt that will start from the Seven Stars pub.
Monday, July 11
For all of you canine lovers, there will be a Family Fun Dog Show between 6pm and 8pm at “Sedgetts”, Farmer Frank’s Lane.
Tuesday, July 12
There will be a special Fair Bingo evening in the Village Hall with eyes down at 7.30pm. Lots of prizes for lines, double lines, and full houses. Go and try your luck!
Wednesday, July 13
The extremely popular Classic and Vintage car show will be happening between 6pm and 9pm in The Square with a road full of old, unique, and quirky vehicles including cars, motorcycles and tractors.
Take along your pride and joy. There will also be live music from “The Hummingbirds” who will sing vintage and swing songs from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Another great evening is anticipated.
Thursday, July 14
Discover the history of the village by joining a walking tour of Winkleigh houses led by village born and bred resident, Andrew Ware. Meet up at 6.30pm in The Square.
Friday, July 15
The ever-popular Quiz and Pudding night will be taking place in the Village Hall from 7pm with doors opening at 6.30pm.

Saturday, July 16
This is Fair Day in The Square with something for everyone. Between 10am and 4pm, the Winkleigh Quilters will be showing off their skills in The Community Centre.
At 12 noon there will be a pram race in The Square, followed by an outdoor market between 1pm and 4pm. During the afternoon there will be children’s attractions including games, face-painting, inflatables, pygmy goat walking, petting and feeding and Nico’s ice cream.
There will be live “Johnny Cash and June Carter” tribute music entertainment between 4pm and 6pm, a family disco from Abstract Dragon between 6pm and 8pm then from 8pm onwards, don your 1980’s glad rags and enjoy a night of 1980’s classics as The Square is transformed to accommodate Exeter band, “Kiss This”.
