A CREDITON businesswoman is set to become the town's very own Mary Portus.

Tara Conabeare of Evans Newsagents, who recently opened a haberdashery department within the newsagency at 10 High Street is following the English retail expert's example and will be opening a Fabric Clearance Pop-Up shop, but for two weeks only.

Opening on Tuesday, August 27 until Saturday, September 7, Tara will sell good quality fabric at what she describes as "knockdown prices" at 115 High Street, Crediton (previously Phillips Print and Stationery Ltd).

The shop will be open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 3.30pm on Saturday.

Fabrics for sale will include fleece, cotton woven, yarn dye, loopback, micro fleece, jerseys, interlock various ribs 1x1, 2x2 (various weights), printed fabric, polar fleece, velour, netting, gingham check and grey marl.

Tara said she was inspired by Mary Portus, the broadcaster, best known for her retail and business related television shows, and most recently for her appointment by the British prime minister to lead a review into the future of Britain's high streets, who has set up pop-up shops as part of her bid to rejuvenate High Street's across the country.

Tara invites everyone to "pop-in" to the "pop-up" shop to browse and buy, but reminds everyone it will only be there for two weeks.

She thanks Mrs Tina Turner, who previously ran Phillips Print and Stationery Ltd for being so helpful in permitting the pop-up shop at 115 High Street.
