DEVON and Cornwall Police have received reports via Devon Trading Standards and the public that people are offering generators and power tools for sale from the back of vans in Mid and North Devon.

A police spokesperson said: “If you are approached and offered goods, we recommend you decline the opportunity to purchase, as the items may be mis-described, over-priced or unsafe and not meet required safety standards.

“If you wish to buy such items then use reputable businesses who provide paperwork including a legitimate address and come recommended, either by friends or via Devon Trading Standards website: www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk .”

A Devon Trading Standards spokesman said: “If you’ve seen someone selling unsafe or potentially illegal goods from a vehicle, you can report it to the police by calling 101, or to the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 03454 040506.”
