CREDITON Police say they "gathered some very useful information" when they took part in a Devon and Cornwall Police operation targeting those who commit crimes in rural areas.

During two evenings, the Crediton officers, which included members of the Neighbourhood Beat Team, stop-checked more than 50 vehicles.

Acting Sgt at Crediton, PC Paul Roberts, said: "As part of Operation Didley, we checked on night-time motorists and gathered some very useful information.

"This is part of an ongoing operation to prevent break-ins and thefts from properties in rural areas.

"I would like to encourage those who live or work in rural areas to report anyone acting suspiciously in rural areas and to note any vehicle registrations and descriptions."
