A total of 24 ewes and one ram were stolen from a field at Coleford, near Crediton between Monday, December 31, and Tuesday, January 1.

Police officers have issued an appeal for any witnesses to the theft to come forward and have also urged the public to be on the lookout for sheep which have been recently moved into previously empty fields.

A police spokesman said: “It is possible that a large vehicle such as a lorry or trailer may have been used so we would urge the public to report to the Police any vehicles seen in the area which seem out of place or with occupants acting in an unusual manner.”
