THE sun shone for Poetic Licence’s Share in the Square event in Crediton’s Town Square on Sunday, August 30, and despite the lure of the beach, it attracted a good-sized crowd.
Five of Devon’s best-loved performance poets, supported by some talented open mic’ers and local musicians, took to the socially-distanced stage to entertain an audience delighted to be back watching live performance while soaking up the bank holiday atmosphere.
Poetic Licence producer, Ysella Sims said: “We had a really good turn out and were blessed with the sunshine.
“Our performers kept the audience engaged and adapted magnificently to the new space and we were so pleased to be able to bring live Performance Poetry back to Crediton. We are grateful to Crediton Arts Centre for their help in making it happen.
“It would be good to see Share in the Square events continue, they have been invaluable in bringing the community together at a difficult time; Sunday demonstrated to us how much people appreciate the opportunity to come together in this way and people still need to be heard - now, arguably, more than ever.”
Poetic Licence is preparing for a socially-distanced and sanitised return to their regular home at the Lamb Inn, Sandford, on Friday, October 30, when Siren Poet, Chris White will be headlining. You can find event details on Facebook at @poeticlicencevents.
Performance Poets were: Robert Garnham, Jackie Juno, Tim King, Shelley Szender, Peter Cowlam.
Open Mic’ers: Steve Oram, Claire Duthie, Tia Meraki, Kaz Macey-Elston, Ruth Butler, Stephen Faulkner. Musicians: Tony Miller, Julian Wild, Etchechuria.
