I AM writing with regards to Mr Binks’ comments in the Crediton Courier (April 15) about using the Town Square as a car park when no events are taking place.
A few years ago some councillors fought hard to get the town square, my late brother, Charlie Haydon, being one of them.
Leave the town square as it is Mr Binks not as a car park - it is the focal point of the town.
As for saying there is a shortage of car parking in Crediton, that’s nonsense. I have walked through St Saviour’s Way car park on Saturday, April 16 about 11.30am. That was a farmers’ market day and it was almost empty. I think you can put that down to Mid Devon District Council’s stupidity to raise car parking charges to £2 for 10 hours.
Shoppers don’t want 10 hours, the old system was fine, everybody was happy.
All that has happened now is motorists are parking in side roads anywhere they can, especially Greenway and you can’t blame them as I would do the same, or they are driving on through the town.
