FIRE safety advice on what to do if there was a fire was made fun by two members of Crediton Fire Station when children from Sandford Playgroup spent most of a morning there.

Crew Manager Neil Hargreaves and Firefighter Mark Bolt showed the children how to “Stop Drop and Roll” if their clothing catches fire, introduced them to the parts of a fire engine, showed them the power of a water hose as well as giving lots of basic advice.

Topic this term for the children is “people who help us”, so there has been a visit by the police and they have looked at people who work in schools, the coastguards, doctors and paramedics plus information such as staying safe on the beach.

Caroline Hemmings, play leader, commented: “It is never too young to learn and this was a day they’ll not forget.”

The playgroup meets at Sandford Parish Hall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 4pm for children aged two to four years. To find out more please contact: [email protected] .
