PLANNING permission in principle has been given for up to nine self-build homes in Morchard Bishop.

They will be located on the western edge of the village off Chulmleigh Road next to the GP surgery.

Since Mr S Jeffery of Morchard Bishop only asked the council to allow development in principle, further permission will be needed from Mid Devon District Council later before the houses are built to decide what they will look like and other particulars.

Planning documents had argued that Mid Devon District Council should grant permission as it cannot show the government it has at least five years’ worth of land for new homes.

The local authority agreed, saying the plans were “acceptable... following engagement of the presumption in favour of sustainable development as set out in the NPPF”.
