PLANNING permission is being sought to turn two barns into two homes at a farm near Black Dog.
Jane Schofield wants each of the redundant agricultural buildings at Lewdon Farm to have three bedrooms and two parking spaces.
The walls would be made of stone repaired and repointed in lime mortar. The slate and sheet metal roofs would be swapped for natural slate, and the windows and doors would be made of timber.
The new homes would be available for sale on the open market.
“The works will provide two sensible sized houses, suitable for either permanent, holiday or annexe accommodation,” planning documents say.
“The layouts could easily be adapted to provide level accommodation for those who are less able.
“The works will ensure the survival of this interesting collection of buildings, retaining their iconic Devon style and making full and proper use of these locally important buildings.”
Lewdon Farm has a Grade II listed farmhouse, probably from the 17th century, and seven barns of varying ages.
You can see the application on Mid Devon District Council’s website under reference 25/01347/FULL.
