NEWTON St Cyres Parish Council has applied to designate the parish of Newton St Cyres as an area for a Neighbourhood Plan.

This is the fifth application Mid Devon District Council has received for a neighbourhood planning designation since the Localism Act (2011) gave local communities the power to produce plans for their own areas.

A neighbourhood plan is a community-led framework for guiding the future development and growth of an area.

It must conform to the strategic policies of the Mid Devon Local Plan, national planning policy and human rights legislation. Neighbourhood plans are also subject to public examination and referendum.

As a first step in the preparation of the plan, Newton St Cyres Parish Council has submitted the boundary of Newton St Cyres parish as the proposed boundary of the neighbourhood area.

The process will run alongside the District Council’s new Local Plan, which contains strategic planning policies and development allocations for Mid Devon.

The Parish Council’s application and a map of the proposed area can be viewed at: www.middevon.gov.uk/neighbourhoodplanning and at the Council’s Office, Phoenix House, Phoenix Lane, Tiverton.

Comments are invited about the suitability of the Parish Council’s proposed neighbourhood area boundary, by email to: [email protected] or by post/delivery to: Forward Planning, Mid Devon District Council, Phoenix House, Phoenix Lane, Tiverton, EX16 6PP.

All representations must include the sender’s postal address or they will not be registered. The deadline for representations is November 29, 2021.
