SPEAKER for the March meeting of Colebrooke WI was Kat who spoke about Pilates, introduced and welcomed alongside members by branch president Valerie Pennington.

Kat started by providing a sports massage service and then progressed on to Pilates.

Pilates was started in 1926 by Joseph Pilates in New York. It began with boxing, skiing, yoga and gymnastics but has modernised and changed over the years and is now based on 34 exercises and is designed to keep every joint moving.

The exercises can be adapted for each individual. Your balance declines as you get older and the exercises can help with this.

The exercises can also help people with arthritis and osteoporosis. Members were able to have a go at some simple exercises designed to keep our joints moving and to help with our balance.
