CREDITON remembered the fallen on Sunday, November 9 at the Parish Church, the service being conducted by the Rev Preb Nigel Guthrie. Once again the church was very full and providing seating for all was a challenge for the church attendants. The congregation was made up of all generations from smallest babies to the very senior age group. It was very good to see the total spectrum of all the youth and charitable organisations being represented. After the service those that formed the parade to the War Memorial could not fail to be delighted to see so many of the townsfolk lining the pavements. I am sure it brought a feeling of some importance to the young people taking part and may I say, well done, to all of them. A distressing incident then took place at approximately 1am on Monday morning at the War Memorial. However, as they say every dark cloud has a silver lining. Ours is that, Becky from the High Street shop, Cartoonz, has, with a big heart, initiated a collection around the businesses of Crediton, in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Help for Heroes. This will go to lift our spirits at this time of Remembrance. So, we say a big "thank you" Becky, from Cartoonz, and also to the participants of the collection. Staying on an up-beat note, may I ask you to come along on November 19, at 7.30pm, to the Charity Rugby Match, sponsored by Crediton Rugby Football Club, again in aid of the Poppy Appeal? We are in the middle of counting the money for this year's Poppy Appeal, but all the signs are that the people of Crediton have been so very generous and big-hearted.
