AS Headteacher of one of Crediton’s two primary schools, I buy the “Courier” every week not only to keep up with what’s going on but also because your newspaper has always been very supportive of local schools.
In an article in the “Courier” (July 1), a resident of Lennard Road was quoted as saying that her fence had been deliberately broken by “teenagers from QE School”.
The piece goes on to say that residents have also “contacted local schools about the issues”.
There is not one school of the 14 schools that make up the Crediton Learning Community that does not do its utmost to promote considerate behaviour and respect for the environment.
However much we engage with our communities and support our parents, we cannot be held responsible for the behaviour of the children in and around Crediton after school and certainly not into the evenings when most of these difficulties seem to be occurring.
My advice to residents is either call 101 (999 if there is a crime being committed) and report the problems or find out who the children are and contact their parents.
Children are certainly capable of making good and bad choices about their behaviour, but it is their parents who should take ultimate responsibility and not schools.
