THE Queen being 90 gives Old Tiverton Road and its nearby streets the opportunity to invite everyone, from the very youngest to 90 years old and beyond, to a street party on Saturday, June 4, from 12 noon until 4pm.
The residents of St Swithun’s, which offers assisted living, will be joining in, in the street, as they did in 2012 when parties were held to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
That time one resident was almost 100.
“I’ll come in on my day off,” said one staff member, “just to see them happy. They are so looking forward to it.”
“At Easter one couple said they’d like a party,” said Laura Conyngham, who lives in Old Tiverton Road, who added: “and a few of us ‘younger’ ones agreed a date and decided to ask Devon County Council for a road closure.
“The street belongs to everyone and a street party is surprisingly easy to organise. Some of us will put up bunting at 12 noon and others will bring chairs, tables and the rest. We’ll enjoy ourselves and then clear up afterwards.”
