THE flags and bunting will soon be flying in North Tawton as the town gets ready to celebrate the legend of Nanny Knight.

The event recreates the celebrations enjoyed by townspeople who, after a prolonged search for a missing elderly resident back in the early 20th Century, found her alive and well in a nearby field.

The celebrations, arranged by Nanny Knight’s family, became an annual event, an opportunity for local people to get together for a bit of a party.

Revived a few years ago, the Revel has new components each time as well as some traditional favourites.

There are 22 events taking place between August 10 and 17.

Highlights include: Sunday, August 11 - Open Air Church Service and Games In The Park; Tuesday, August 13 - Lantern making, shadow puppets and story telling; Wednesday, August 14 - High Tea for North Tawton Seniors

Friday, August 16 - Open Gardens and Saturday, August 17 - Made In North Tawton Produce Market and the Marquee Show with Fun and Games at the Rugby Club.

Other events include a pool tournament, bowls open evening, snail race, art show, Fizz Pop science session, folk session, history walk, seniors tea party and brewery tour.

Details of all the events are in the Nanny Knight’s Revel brochure and copies are available from North Tawton Post Office.
