FIREFIGHTERS have put out a house fire in the Hollacombe area west of Crediton.

The blaze in an upstairs bedroom was reported to the fire service just before 5pm on Sunday, November 30.

Crews from Crediton and Exeter Danes Castle were sent to the scene immediately. When they got there, they called for backup due to the roof being “well alight”.

National Grid was asked to attend the incident, and crews used water from the lake at the property to fight the fire.

Firefighters made steady progress through the night, and the fire was eventually extinguished the following morning.

The house was completely destroyed by the blaze, which began accidentally, the fire service said.

As many as 15 fire stations were involved in the incident. They were: Barnstaple, Chulmleigh, Hatherleigh, North Tawton, Okehampton, Torquay, Bovey Tracey, Chagford, Moretonhampstead, Exeter Danes Castle, Crediton, Honiton, Tiverton, Witheridge, and Exeter Middlemoor.
