DESPITE the gloomy weather outside, Cheriton Fitzpaine Parish Hall was a sea of colour for the Garden Club Annual Show. 

Once again Nick Hockey swept the board with his garden produce and won the Moore's Cup for the most points in the show.  Runner up was Terry Meakin, Show Secretary. 

Nick also took home the Rose Bowl for the most points in the floral section, although the Nott Cup for the best exhibit in that section went to Barry Evershed Martin.

Comparative newcomers to the show scene:  Barbara Pratt and Barbara Smith, won the Reg Pike Trophy for most points in the Floral Art Section and the Old Beams vase for the most outstanding exhibit in floral art.

The First Timers' cup went to Joe Anderson, of Upham and Diploma's in Horticulture went to Jenny Holmes and Sue Hockey.  Floral Art went to Elspeth Ford and Norah Bulled.

Young Ben Perryman won the eight years plus Carr Shield and Daisy Norton won the seven years and under.

The Brownies not only decorated the tearoom (which did a roaring trade), but also entered a competition for paper flowers which was won by Katrina Allen The Rainbows made giant flowers, and the best entry was by Holly Barclay.

Christine Dean and Beryl Downs had the best hanging baskets and pots (judged the previous week) and Hilary Anderson won the Gardener's Challenge Cup. MN
