THE morning service at Crediton Parish Church this coming Sunday, July 6, at 9.30am is different, not least as it takes place next door in the Boniface Centre.

Holy Cross is rightly well known and admired for its more formal liturgy of Eucharist and Choral Evensong led by its renowned choir in its historic building.

Less well known is that on one Sunday a month (usually the first in the month) its main morning worship takes the form of a very accessible 40 minute informal service without a printed order of service (it’s all on screen).

The congregational music of hymns and worship songs is accompanied by a small band, and the service is often led by members of the regular congregation under the guidance of Preb Sue Rose who retired to Crediton from Bath and Wells Diocese.

The current series of these services has been exploring the Parables of Jesus; this coming Sunday it will be “The Prodigal Son”.

Preb Matthew Tregenza, the Rector of Crediton, said: “Holy Cross exists to serve the whole community and we are conscious that some people, not just families, may welcome the chance to worship in a less formal way.

“This doesn’t in any way mean we are downplaying the importance of our other Sunday worship, but these services (like our more intimate mid-week services) add to the range we can offer.

“I am very grateful to Preb Sue Rose and her team of volunteers for making them possible.”
