NEWTON St Cyres Young Farmers’ Club held its annual harvest supper at Sandford Parish Hall on October 9, where trophy and charity cheque presentations were made.
The night also included a meal prepared by the members and a speech from outgoing chairman, Ben May.
Newton St Cyres Young Farmers’ Club Leader, Angie Prouse presented a total of £2,800, which was split equally between two charities, Crediton Friends of FORCE cancer charity and Make a Wish Foundation.
Di Pring, the new Chairman of Crediton Friends of FORCE said: “The money is very much needed as we have not been able to fundraise because of Covid.
“We had a fabulous evening and the young people are so enthusiastic - it was a fab thing to do.”
The charities were chosen by the YFC members as they have both directly helped and supported club members and their families.
The money was raised through events including the 85 Anniversary Cream Tea, the March dung sale, Christmas Bingo and various other fundraisers, including selling Christmas Wreaths at Exe Valley Farm Shop, which the Young Farmers’ will be doing again this year.
Angie Prouse also presented the club trophies, which recognised the hard work of the club members: Best New Boy - Tom Saunders, Best New Girl -Amy Taverner, Best U19 Boy - William Davie, Best U19 Girl - Lily May, Best Boy - Ben May, Best Girl -Chloe Eyles, Most Consistent - Alice Dowle, Most Consistent Runner Up - Katie Davie, Speaking Cup - Fran Mobbs, Members Member - Ben May and Stockjudging Award - Chloe Eyles and Lily May.
The new YFC year is in full swing, with Alice Dowle as the new Chairperson. There are already dates being planned for upcoming events, this includes carnivals and a number of socials and competitions.
