TWO South West in Bloom judges have been given a tour of Newton St Cyres to assess the village’s first-ever entry into the regional competition.

Starting at The Beer Engine pub, Bob Ollier and Barbara Hannan visited the railway station, the primary school, the arboretum, the village beekeepers and many other community projects on Tuesday, July 1.

The results will be announced on Wednesday, October 8 when Lady Emma Kitchener-Fellowes presents the prizes at the Riviera Centre in Torquay.

Points are awarded based on three criteria, weighted at 40 per cent for horticultural achievement, 30 per cent for environmental responsibility and another 30 per cent for community participation.

South West in Bloom is one of the 16 regions that make up RHS Britain in Bloom.
