AGE Concern Crediton and District has a new chief executive officer.

Kevin Aish has been appointed to support, monitor and develop the work of Age Concern Crediton and District.

Working with The Board of Trustees, he will be informing, advising and acting in consultation with the trustees to keep the charity’s profile high.

He will manage and oversee the operations including the Day Centre, the Age Concern charity shop and the work of the Home Support and Wellbeing Co-ordinator.

Kevin has worked in the care sector for more than 10 years and was previously deputy director of Age UK Plymouth and its acting director for two years.

More recently he was working with a small charity in Brixham, which also supported a 30-bed residential unit.

Kevin explained that he joined Age Concern Crediton and District in June.

“With the beginning of the relaxation of some restrictions we are increasing the opening of the charity shop and working towards increasing the capacity of opening at the day centre.

VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY WANTED

“We want to open both fully but we are short of volunteers.

“We want volunteers to support our paid manager in the shop, which is so important income wise for us.

“In addition, we need more people to help us in our day centre and with our home support service. This works on two levels, one a befriending/companion basis and the other offering a cleaning service as well.

“The clients pay a nominal rate for these types of service.”

Mr Aish said that anyone who wanted to find out more can do so by calling at the shop or the Deep Lane Centre or telephoning the Centre on 01363 775008.

DONATION

He added that the charity was pleased to recently receive a donation of £1,267.65 following the “winding up” of Shobrooke Friendly Club, which would go a long way during the current difficult times.

Mr Aish said that modern social care had become reliant on the third sector, adding that it was a very difficult time for adult social care which generally falls on charities to act as a safety net.
