SANDFORD School has received the donation of 39 new books for its library, thanks to shoppers at Sandford Community Stores, Crediton Community Bookshop and the charity, Sandford Area Community Action.
Sandford Community Action was given a £200 donation, money it received from profits from Sandford Community Stores.
The charity decided to give the money to the primary school on the understanding that it use the money to purchase books from Crediton Community Bookshop.
Charity representative Charlie Werner, visited the school library this week to present Year Six school librarians with the books.
He was accompanied by Cathie Holden, who runs Crediton Community Bookshop Outreach Project, who helped to choose the books.
Cathie said many of the books came from the bookshop’s top 20 list, adding that she was also able to obtain a discount, resulting in the school receiving £220 worth of books.
A school spokesperson said: “This is an absolutely fantastic donation and we cannot thank all those concerned enough.
“It will make such a difference to the children by helping improve their reading skills.”
