SANDFORD resident, farmer, ex-county, district and parish councillor Michael Lee sat down with Central Devon MP Mel Stride last Friday to celebrate the publication of his second book.

Michael, who turns 90 this year, published “Dowrich: The Story of an old Devon House and its Farm” in 2017 which tells the story of his life, work, family and his remarkable home at Dowrich.

In December he released his second book, “Dowrich: A Home for All Seasons - More stories from the House, Farm and Farther Afield”.

As an avid historian and friend of Michael’s for nearly 20 years, Mr Stride penned the foreword for the book.

He said: “It was great to get together with Michael and celebrate the publication of his second book.

Sandford is a community rich in history and both of Michael’s books are helping to preserve an important part of that. The stories of Dowrich and his lifetime dedicated to the farming industry are a fascinating read.”

The pair were joined by County Councillor Margaret Squires, who served alongside him on Mid Devon District Council and succeeded Michael at County Hall in 2013.

“Dowrich: A Home for All Seasons - More stories from the House, Farm and Farther Afield” is available at Sandford Stores, The Bookery and Mole Avon in Crediton for £20.
