THE Friends of Sandford School Strawberry Fair was held on Saturday, July 8 and although some early showers threatened to spoil the preparations, the weather came good and lots of people from the community attended for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

Dan Snell, on behalf of the Friends of Sandford School (FOSS), told the “Courier”: “There was a chance to have-a-go at games, that varied from the nerf gun challenge, 10p roller, welly wanging, and of course, ‘Wet the Rector’ which is always popular with anyone who fancies getting soaked!

“Delicious cream teas were on offer, as well as homemade cakes, and the cider tent was very popular!

“Many people took the time to make nice comments about the fair and how there was a lovely community feel to the event. The tractor crew had many visits to showcase their vintage tractors.

“An early count up puts the total amount of money raised at nearly £2,000 which is an amazing amount.  All the money that FOSS raise goes towards enriching the educational experience of all the children at Sandford School.

“FOSS would like to thank everybody who helped with the planning, setting up, running a stall, or putting away, and of course special thanks to the local businesses, Sandford Orchards, Cox’s Butchers, The Lamb Inn, Ernest Jackson, Thorne’s Farm Shop, Stevie B’s Bakery, The Waie Inn, Exeter Chiefs, The White Room Creative Space and Nick Couzens from Mission Wild Adventure who treated the children to a trail and chance to cook a marshmallow on the school firepit!

“We can’t thank everyone here but we will be posting online to thank all those wider Devon businesses that kindly donated prizes for days out for our families to enjoy.”

A number of presentations were made by the Friends to those who have been longstanding helpers with the Strawberry Fair.

Surprise presentations were made by Deputy Head of School Charlotte Tofts, to Jo McCullough, Steve McCullough, Aby Payne and Dan Snell.

A surprise presentation was also made to Cathy Webb, the chair of FOSS.
