A WHOLE lot of clean and sparkling cars were driven last Saturday in Crediton and area, thanks to the work of the crew of Crediton Fire Station because Saturday was one of the National Car Wash events in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity.
It is the charity’s largest fundraising event of the year when firefighters throughout the UK wash cars in exchange for a donation to the charity.
Last year more than £278,000 was raised nationally through the car wash events in March and September.
It is also a chance for them to chat with people about fire safety, especially in the home.
Crediton’s local fire chief, Ian Salter, Watch Manager for the Crediton Station, advised that every home should have a smoke detector that works on each level of the house.
“Check it regularly. Just as important is a carbon monoxide detector, especially if you have an open fire.
“If anyone needs more information, they can contact the fire station - a smoke alarm can make all the difference,” he added.
Compared to recent weather, the car wash was a perfect day, not too windy, not freezing and a bit of sunshine.
