AT the beginning of December, I discovered that I had lost my wedding ring. It had been loose for some time and I did not know where or how it had gone.

I had been wearing it since we were married in 1965, so I was very dismayed that it seemed to have gone.

Fortunately, when we rang the police, they told us that a wedding ring had been found in the High Street and handed in on December 3.

I went up to look at it and claimed it as mine. Subsequently I have had it re-sized, so it no longer slides off my finger.

The police officer told me that he was unable to give me the name of the person who handed the ring in, nor to pass anything to him or her, but he would pass my telephone number on to the finder.

The finder has not been in touch since then. I would like, whoever it was, to know how much we appreciate their action.

To mark this I have made a donation to a local charity.

I think that all Courier readers would like to share with me the warmth, that I felt, when I discovered that it had been found and handed in.
