A REQUEST for help with funding to hold lunchtime concerts later this year in Crediton with Crediton Children’s Orchestra taking a spot was put to Crediton Town Council last week.
Musician Paul Vincent thanked the council for its previous grants, which had meant the Music Makers’ being able to give regular free lunchtime concerts in the Congregational Church in the summer.
It also meant music groups were able to hold rehearsals at low cost there, another Music Makers’ initiative with the church.
Mr Vincent said it had been hoped to hold another New Year’s Day concert this year, as had happened on the first afternoon of the year for three years, but there had not been sufficient response from would-be players.
This would have featured the now-established Crediton Children’s Orchestra, run by Alison Golby.
Instead, he and Alison were hoping to organise a new event with the orchestra and Music Makers.
Mr Vincent said he was committed to developing the Music Makers’ activities with a view to encouraging live music making and audiences in Crediton.
He was told the town council would pass his request for help to its grants committee.
