CONSERVATIVE Central Devon MP Sir Mel Stride has paid a visit to Lapford Mill.

Owner Alex Gater told the Shadow Chancellor about issues facing the business and the village and gave him a brief tour.

Mr Gater spoke about how he had to close Lapford Mill temporarily in March after a burst sewage pipe leaked effluent into the leat, the watercourse that supplies the mill with water.

He told Sir Mel of his ongoing dispute with South West Water, and his desire for the water in the leat to be given a clean bill of health.

Mr Gater also brought up how he believes trains should call at Lapford more regularly, instead of it being a request stop, and sought advice on applying for grants to improve the railway.
