MOTORISTS travelling in the Crediton area and other parts of Devon are advised that the annual bike ride The FORCE Nello, sponsored by the Bike Shed of Crediton and supported by WF Chinn, also of Crediton, will take place on Sunday, June 24.

A total of 1,500 cyclists will arrive in the area via Morchard Road travelling towards Crediton but turn off at Barnstaple Cross and head to Shobrooke and then over to Newton St Cyres via back lanes.

The majority of the cyclists are expected to pass through the area between noon and 3pm.

Please be aware that there could be some disruption on the roads that day.

In 2016 two cyclists taking part in the ride were injured following a collision with a vehicle at Half Moon, near Exeter, on the A377, which resulted in the road being closed to traffic for more than an hour.

The event will start and finish at Topsham Rugby Club and the cyclists cover either a 100 or 55-mile route.

Those on the longer route cycle as far as Exmoor.

The cycling event raises about £80,000 a year for the FORCE cancer charity.

This year’s Nello will be the 19th such bike ride and formerly known as the Century Cycle Challenge, the ride started in 2000, in memory of former Topsham restaurateur Nello Ghezzo.

FORCE works locally to offer face-to-face support for anyone affected by cancer. It is an independent charity, founded in 1987, which provides help for patients, their families and friends at its Support Centre in the grounds of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
