THE COURIER has been thanked for helping a supermarket chain highlight the 55 vacancies it will have at its new store.
Hundreds of people turned up to the jobs fair held by Morrisons in the hope of securing work.
Morrisons take over from Somerfield on May 20 but the store will then close until mid August for a complete refurbishment.
Within the first hour of the two-day jobs fair opening at Crediton's Boniface Centre, it had handed out enough job application forms to fill all the vacancies.
The company is recruiting people for a wide variety of roles, from craft-skilled butcher to fresh food assistant and department managers to supervisors.
Potential applicants will join the 90-plus Somerfield staff when the new store opens.
The Somerfield staff will be re-trained during the time the store is closed.
The man who will be the Crediton Morrisons store general manager, Rob Walker, said that he was more than pleased with the number of people who had applied for positions.
He said: "We are very excited about bringing Morrisons to Crediton.
"We are pleased that so many people want to come and work with us.
"Fresh food will be a key focus for us and the new store will have many departments including fish, butchery, a delicatessen and more."
Mr Walker confirmed that Morrisons would be running regular buses to take shoppers to and from its sister store at nearby Tiverton at intervals each day.
It is anticipated that the Crediton Morrisons will open on August 17.
