CREDITON Town Team would like to enrol some enthusiastic volunteers to help advance its plans for a New Community Hub for the town.

The Town Team is a group of local volunteers who first came together to organise the 2013 Crediton Festival.

This proved so successful that, with the help of some funds from Mid Devon District Council, it was asked to extend its work to lead a range of regeneration projects.

Its work has been varied to-date, including CredFest 2015 and CredFest 2017, co-ordinating the town’s Flag Project, helping to promote the town as the birthplace of St Boniface.

The Town Team’s most ambitious project, on which it has been working since early 2015, is the creation of the Crediton Community Hub - a new facility for local people, a destination for culture and entertainment and an incubator for small enterprises.

Rosemary Stephenson, Town Team chairman, explained that the aim is to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Crediton through Arts, Community and Enterprise.

She added: “We need an enthusiastic team to set up this organisation, direct it towards achieving its objectives and ensure that it is managed effectively.

“We want to recruit five to nine people to join a new governing body, the Shadow Board of Trustees, under the umbrella of Crediton Town Team in the first instance. The posts are unpaid, though reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

“We’re looking for people with enough time, energy and vision to make this ambitious project happen.”

Rosemary said she hoped the Crediton Community Hub would include an auditorium for theatre, film and music events, meeting rooms, a gallery, a cafe and the units for small businesses.

The Town Team spent 18 months researching and visiting other such venues across Devon and completed an in-house feasibility study in June last year.

The first job of the new trustees will be to develop the concept of the Hub and raise funds for a professional feasibility study to ensure that it will be a relevant and sustainable social enterprise.

More details and a trustee recruitment pack can be found at: http://www.creditontownteam.org.uk/community-hub/ .

Closing date for applications is Friday, July 6 and interviews will be held on Saturday, July 14.
