THE Choir from Morchard Bishop Parish Church sang for Mid Devon District Council’s Annual Civic Service held at the Parish Church of St Mary, Morchard Bishop.

The Chairman of Mid Devon District Council, Cllr Peter Heal, hosted the service, which was conducted by the Team Vicar, the Rev Lindsey Starrs.

Readings were given by Councillor Ray Radford, chairman, Devon County Council and Cllr Heal.

The prayers were led by Rev Starrs and an amusing, historical and thoughtful address was given by Rev Preb Anthony Geering.

Guest speaker was Mrs Louise Richardson on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. A donation of £250 was made by Cllr Heal to the charity.

Among the guests who attended the service were many Mayors and Mayoresses from authorities across the county, a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Devon, council representatives and many others.

The service concluded with “The National Anthem”.

Thanks were also extended to the organist, Mrs Susan Gales, the church bellringers, church flower arrangers and those who helped organise the service, the chairman’s PA, Sarah Lees and member services manager Sally Gabriel.

Cllr Heal was pictured in a photograph in the service order of service as a young boy of five standing at the church gate to St Mary’s Church, having attended Sunday School that afternoon.

Refreshments were enjoyed after the service in Morchard Bishop Memorial Hall.
