WEATHER is always a topic of conversation so a chance to find out more about what is going on and share ideas in a friendly place and with cake seems a good idea.

Becoming pretty general all over the country, the first Climate Cafe in this area was held at Copplestone at the beginning of January.  February’s gathering saw more people go along and the next is Wednesday, March 1 at 7pm, each time at Copplestone Methodist Church Hall.

It is organised by Madeleine Greenhalgh who lives locally and leads Green New Deal Devon.  Madeleine says this is about a positive future and she would very much like some farmers to go along to these sessions.  “They are so important,” said Madeleine.

The cakes are home made and rather good.  People are welcome to pop in or can stay the whole two hours if they wish.  It is a chance to ask questions, swop ideas and experiences with such as trying to stay warm economically.

“It is for people who are maybe bothered about some aspect of climate change, who have climate anxieties, who want to do something but not sure what.

“So much of what is being done is in Exeter or further away and not a lot in places such as here,” she added.

“That first Climate Cafe went really well, conversation was wide-ranging from wood burners to food waste to wild flower meadows and it is thank you to everyone who came,” she added.

It is hoped to run the Climate Cafe on the first Wednesday evening of every month for as long as people are interested.

“This is a really relaxed space for anyone to voice hopes, fears or ask questions about climate change without judgement,” added Madeleine.
