A NUMBER of people in Crediton were astonished to see a mini tornado pass over the town on Thursday, August 23.

Courier readers Julie Hazlewood and Marcus Brown have both sent us pictures which show the tornado over different parts of the town.

Marcus Brown explained: "As I was driving home from work I noticed some mean looking clouds and noticed a funnel.

"This turned into a rather impressive tornado, of which I got a good photo.

"It was taken at the top of Jockey Hill."

Julie Hazlewood, of Ashton's Coffee Lounge, Market Street, took her photo in the town square.

She explained: "It was first spotted by Lizzie Foan from Busy Lizzie's, who came into Ashton's and said 'Have you seen the clouds?'

"I went outside and had to take a photo as I used to live in the Caribbean and am used to having hurricane weather.

"I had never seen the clouds form like they did here and this obviously didn't materialise into a hurricane but it was still fascinating."
