A FORMER Crediton police sergeant was among 16 officers and staff from Devon and Cornwall Police honoured for their long service and good conduct at a ceremony held at the China Fleet Country Club, Saltash. Inspector Jacquie Hawley, originally from Cornwall, joined Devon and Cornwall Constabulary in March 1992.

She was posted to Honiton, winning the top student award in her probation.

A move to Exeter CID followed shortly after her probation.  There she dealt with a number of high profile cases and continued to build her reputation as an exceptional police officer with an eye for detail. In 1999 Jacquie took up a post in detective crime training, after which she was promoted to Sergeant.

She served in Mid Devon, where she worked at all three stations in the sector, Crediton, Tiverton and Cullompton and made "a huge impact on performance, drawing attention from the Chief Officer Group, prompting them to invite her to apply for and subsequently undertake the job of Staff Officer".

She was promoted to Inspector in 2005 to the Territorial Policing Department where she had responsibility for the Force Youth Strategy.

During the four years Jacquie spent in this role, youth offending ws reduced in the force area by 40 per cent and much of her good work was introduced as national best practice.

A move to Exeter as a Sector Inspector in 2011 was quickly followed by an attachment to a lead position co-ordinating the Global Rostering System project, one of the most critical and high profile information technology projects in the force.

Jacquie and her colleagues received their awards from Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer and Colonel Edward T Bolitho OBE, the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall.
