THE measures introduced on March 23 had a profound effect on us all.

Children were unable to attend school for four months, most shops, all pubs had to shut and leisure facilities close.

Town councillors also had the challenge of holding meetings. This was solved by having "virtual" meetings held using Zoom, meetings that are open to the public.

Sadly we have had to cancel many of our popular annual events such as my Mayor’s reception, our garden competition and our normal Annual Town Meeting.

We have held very "low key" events to commemorate V E Day, Armed Forces Week and V J Day.

It is with great sorrow that we have to let you all know that this year there will be no Remembrance Sunday Ceremony, it is usually so well attended but rules will not allow it.

However, at 11am on Wednesday, November 11, two maroons will go off to indicate the usual two minutes’ silence, which you can respectfully honour at home, at work or wherever you are in the area.

On behalf of all councillors I thank you for your understanding.

Frank Letch MBE

Mayor of Crediton
