THREE daffodils took the top prize at Tedburn St Mary spring flower show on Saturday, March 23, winning the shield for the best exhibit in the show.

They were entered by Martin Rich who also won the trophy for gaining most points in the show, the first time he has won either award despite having entered many times.

In the children’s classes, the best flower was a miniature daffodil grown by Harvey Rowe and Polly Sevink won the prize for the best hand-made Easter card.

However, a very sad announcement had to be made - that unless more people come forward, there would not be a Tedburn Fair and Sports this year, the first time for more than 100 years.

At the flower show the Fair minute secretary, Jackie Titchen, said: "We would hate to see it finish, it would be very sad. People tend to think the Fair just happens on the day, but it takes months of organising.

"We have a meeting on Tuesday, April 23 at The Kings Arms when we hope people will come along to keep the future of the Fair looking bright."

She added that if the Fair did fail to happen then the flower show that has always been a part of the day would still be held.

Anyone interested who is unable to go to the meeting is asked to contact the Fair chairman, Simon Anthony on 01647 61911.
