TONY Wright, organiser of Sandford Flower Show, said that although entries were down this year he was delighted that they had several new exhibitors and that the standard was high.
Trophy winners were John Crook, who swept the board by winning the J Crooke Perpetual Cup for the greatest number of points in the vegetable and flower classes and the Nick Cann Cup, the Flower Show Cup, the David Friendship Cup, plus gift vouchers.
The £10 gift voucher for Best vegetable exhibit was won by Angela Hawkins, who also won the Shield for most points in Floral Art classes and the WI Rosebowl for most points in the Cookery classes.
Mary-Rose Somerville, took home the Shield for the Best Pot Plant. David Hope had the Cup for the Heaviest Pumpkin and also tied with Steve McCullock for the Garden News trophy for Most points in the classes for Sandford gardeners, especially those who had not shown before.
Helen Lee won the gift voucher for her fruit cake. Diane Fyfe and Jean Ford tied for the Pennington Shield for most points in the Homecraft section.
Eileen Stanlake took home the Tucker Shield for the best exhibit in the Photography classes, the Somerville Cup for Most Points in the Photography section and the Allin Cup for Best Exhibit in the Floral Art.
Children’s Trophy winners were Marley and Cassius Evens and Jenson Sharp, who won the Cup for most points in the Children’s Photography classes.
All trophies were presented by Mr Jim Stephens who warmly congratulated the winners, adding that the show had been a superb success. He thanked Tony Wright, his band of helpers and everyone who had entered or gone along to support this annual event.
Janet Conibear, presented the prizes for the Best Kept Sandford Allotments, the winners being Judith and Paul Ezard, runner-up Sue Newman and in joint third were David Friendship and Peter Scrace. Sandford School was Highly Commended.
