The driver of a delivery vehicle was trapped between the back of his vehicle and against a wall in Sandford this morning, Saturday, October 29.

The incident happened at about 7.40am at the top of Rose and Crown Hill, Sandford.

A fire crew from Crediton, assisted by a crew from Danes Castle in Exeter, a crew from Taunton and the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue heavy rescue vehicle as well as an ambulance crew and paramedics attended.

The vehicle was a lightweight commercial vehicle, believed to weigh approximately 3.5 tonnes.

The fire crews used a winch and stabilising equipment as well as hydraulic cutting equipment to release the trapped man.

A Devon Air Ambulance landed at Sandford Playing Field and the man was carried by stretcher from the scene to the air ambulance.

He was then taken to Derriford Hospital at Plymouth.

His condition is, as yet, unknown.
