A MAN has died after being struck by a train at Crediton Railway Station, British Transport Police have confirmed.

The incident, on the rail line from Exeter to Barnstaple, occurred at about 9.30pm yesterday, Friday, October 19.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said: “BTP officers were called to Crediton Railway Station, Station Approach, Crediton on Friday, October 19 after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“Officers from British Transport Police, Devon and Cornwall Police and the Ambulance Service attended the incident, and at 9.40pm a male was declared deceased.

“The identity of the male has been confirmed and the incident is being treated as non-suspicious.

“Officers are currently in the process of informing their next of kin.

“HM Coroner has been notified and BTP are conducting an investigation into the events surrounding this incident.

“It is requested that any information about this incident be passed to British Transport Police by contacting 0800 405040 quoting incident 671 of Friday, October 19, 2018.”

Services were cancelled on the line during the evening and have now returned to normal.
