AMAZING creations were worn by residents of Redvers House, Crediton, at one of their weekly coffee mornings before Easter when the Courier's co-founder Sue Read judged their hats.

Winners were Hazel Leahy and Brenda Williams. Several other residents received consolation prizes. Harold Hollingsworth was the only gent to take part. He wore a tall black cardboard top hat with a rabbit peeping out of the top.

Another well hatted person was Miss Irene Sankey. At 98 she is the oldest resident at the house and rapidly becoming one of its most famous.

Miss Sankey was a Queens Nurse, awarded the MBE in 1976 and has written a book about her experiences and has her 25 years' service award. This year is the 150th anniversary of the Queens Nurses and Miss Sankey has been interviewed by Judi Spiers for BBC Radio Devon and Woman's Hour on BBC Radio Four.

She regularly helps with the Shoebox schemes at the Methodist Church next door to her home.
