HAVE you links with Zeal Monachorum? Between October 23 and 25 an exhibition about the village will be held in the Village Hall.
It will include hundreds of old photographs collected for the exhibitions held in the early 1990s, together with more acquired since.
These, together with maps, old school log book entries, census returns, aerial photographs, personal memories of life and much more, form the basis of an archive held in Zeal by Erica Eden.
She is putting on the exhibition for the Village Hall Committee and says that she is sure that there are more treasures hidden away in people's photo albums, shoe boxes and attics. She is keen to see photographs or documents from the past to the present day, especially featuring farmers and farming - ploughing, harvesting, machinery, livestock; places – buildings, landscape, nature; village and sporting events and people at work.
If you have anything that you would be prepared to lend, it should be labelled with your name and telephone number and, if known, the date when the picture was taken, the place, and names of any people appearing in it.
Erica will take good care of anything lent and would hope to make copies and then return the originals to the owners.
It is not just pictures she is interested in but also memories of life in the Parish and she would be delighted to hear, and perhaps try to write down, stories of lives and times within Zeal.
Some photographs in the archive still lack details, perhaps readers can help with naming the people in this photograph taken in 1939?
