PUBS are at the very heart of our high streets in towns and cities, and vital to villages across the whole country.
We all know the benefits that they bring to both our local economies and communities.
We know too that our local pubs also do a great deal for charities, and many raise money for good causes, both in our local areas and for national appeals.
PubAid has calculated that pubs across the UK raise more than £100 million each year for good causes.
This is a huge figure and is testament to the hard work and community spirit of publicans and pub goers in all of our constituencies.
But PubAid want to go one further and raise £1 million in one night – and you can help.
In conjunction with JustGiving, PubAid are organising a world record attempt for the Largest Multi Venue Quiz – a pub quiz taking place simultaneously in hundreds of pubs around the country.
The aim is to not only break the world record, but also to raise a total £1 million for good causes local to the pubs in one night.
The quiz will take place on Sunday, February 7, at 7.30pm and will include 60 questions. Teams should be a maximum of six.
One of the local pubs taking part is the Devonshire Dumpling at Morchard Road who will be charging £2 per head a and offering a prize for the winning team with all the proceeds going to Parkinsons UK.
Teams can just turn up on the night, but if wishing to eat are advised to book on 01363 85102.
The Lamb Inn at Sandford will also be taking part in the quiz. Telephone 01363 773676 for more information.
