CREDITON filmmaker Dom Lee (25), who is asking the people of Crediton to help contribute to an unusual project, to make a fort out of 3,000 cardboard boxes in the town’s Newcombes Meadow, says the project has got off to a good start but would like more boxes as well as the film.
Dom told the “Courier”: “The collection of 3,000 cardboard boxes has got off to a really strong start and the total has reached more than 1,000, thanks to businesses and individuals who’ve donated boxes so far.
“Saturday, August 6 is the build date and I’m hoping lots of people will come and help to build the fort.
“I’m currently looking for a local home or two in which to shoot some of the scenes.
“The plot is ‘10-year-old James enjoys creating cardboard models with his Mum, things such as cars and rocketships. Mum has designs for their most ambitious project yet, a cardboard box fort made from thousands of boxes. When she falls ill it is left to James, Dad and the local community to organise and construct the fort…’
“I’m on the hunt for some locations to use in the film, specifically in a child’s bedroom and a front room. The rooms can be in different houses if necessary. I also need a house where I can film directly outside, ideally two storeys and with a small flat front lawn and garage.
“I’m looking to sign up some more marshals to help on the day, this could be helping to move boxes into the park, reassembling them and supervising the construction in general so if you could spare a few hours I’d be really grateful.”
If you feel you can help as a marshal or have a house which you may wish to offer for filming, please email: [email protected] .
Filming will take place from late July until Mid August.
Dom has obtained permission from Mid Devon District Council to build the box fort in Newcombes Meadow park, and he intends to release the 15-minute film in 2017.
