THE beautifully landscaped gardens of The Old Glebe in Eggesford will be the perfect setting for an early evening performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s satirical light opera, “Iolanthe”, which will take place on Sunday, August 16.

Renowned rhododendron specialist Nigel Wright has spent more than 30 years landscaping the gardens which will present a beautiful backdrop for the performance by Illyria.

The event, organised in conjunction with The Plough Arts Centre, is raising funds for the upkeep of the historic All Saints Church at Eggesford.

Afternoon teas will be available before the performance and a bar will serve refreshments during the interval.

Illyria are a top quality company that has been delighting audiences with their outdoor performances since 1991.

This will be the company’s first visit to Eggesford and the skilled cast of singer-actors invites you to share in the music and jollity of this magical comic opera.

Despite being written more than 130 years ago, many of Gilbert and Sullivan’s humorous potshots at the establishment are still relevant today.

Doors open at 3pm so visitors will have the opportunity to explore the wonderful gardens and enjoy some refreshments before the performance starts at 5pm.

Tickets cost £15 for adults, £13 for concessions and £9 for supporters of The Plough Arts Centre. Family and group tickets are available.

Tickets are available from Eggesford Garden Centre (01769 580250) or online at: www.theploughartscentre.org.uk .
