CHERITON Fitzpaine Ladies' Evening Organisation (CLEO) had a wonderful surprise at its May meeting.

Rosemary Griggs, assisted by her husband David, came to give us a realistic demonstration of a lady's life in Tudor Devon.

Wearing 16th century clothing, Rosemary told us how delving into fashion can take you on unexpected journeys, leading to discoveries in international trade, commerce, and even piracy.

Each part of her clothing was beautifully made and had a particular function.

At the end of the presentation, we were all grateful to live in the more free and easy 21st century.

Last month, CLEO enjoyed a talk by Sandford resident Penny Somerville about teaching art in a rural Indian school.
