WE read with interest the letter sent in to the Crediton Courier by Margaret Tucker (May 8) in regards to war time table shelters.
My husband worked on a farm in the 1980’s where these tables were used at sheep shearing times to roll and bundle fleeces.
These tables were purchased after the war, my husband recalls the tables were approximately three feet in height, the table legs were six inch by six inch angle irons and the table tops were held firm using four inch by four inch bolts.
Yes these tables were used in houses to secure all occupants, adults, children and pets, when the bombs were heard dropping outside.
We have seen four days of memories from war time and remember just what the people went through and how they rejoiced at the end.
We should not forget but remember we are here today with voice which allow the freedom to have opinions and life itself.
