SOME years ago the government made a commitment that it and other public bodies would use ‘plain English’ so that information was understandable.
The message didn’t seem to filter down to the boss of the North Devon NHS trust. In the last paragraph of your article on page 2 (Hospital confirms maternity suspension, August 13, Mr Higginson says it had contacted ‘more than 300 women and birthing people who are 34 weeks pregnant …’
Who or what are ‘birthing people’? Perhaps Mr Higginson would like to explain what he means?
