This is not doom-scrolling. "It could never happen here" is a useless panacea since so few of us fully grasp what "it" entails.
Perhaps the only break against to unfathomable change will be if Trump destabilises so much of the world economy that we have a banking crisis of such proportions that he will have to turn his new gold-emblazoned White House ballroom into a bomb shelter in which to hide from his own people.
